VSEO - 5 Steps to Video Optimization

The highlight of the 5th Digital Dealer Conference in Dallas, TX this year for me was Shaun Raines (Dealer Advisor) presentation on ‘What You Should Know About Video and VSEO’.  Too many of these presentations are about the Internet being a good source for customers and leads and I feel that day-to-day ideas that can be executed like Shaun’s VSEO tutorial often are missed.

After Shaun woke up and combed his hair with a porkchop, these are the notes I took from his presentation (BTW - You can also find these on my Twitter account: www.twitter.com/patrickworkman; that’s right, I Twittered the conferences…how’s that for Web 2.0!).

- Shaun started with an idea about giving Hot Wheels to children at the dealership.  ‘Your parents are getting a car today and here is your car’.  Solid low-tech idea to increase customer satisfaction.

- YouTube has more viewers than ABC, NBC, and CBS combined.

- IDEA: Incorporate video inside your sales processes.  Archive a database of video content to distribute on a situational basis.  Send video testimonials from customers that have purchased a similar vehicle (i.e. inbound lead received on a Subaru Outback, send video testimonial of a customer that recently purchased a Subaru Outback).

- IDEA: Include video introductions of your Internet Sales team in the auto-response.  Create unique introductions out-of-the-gate versus standard, ‘We’ll contact you soon’ responses.

- Recommended the RCA Small Wonder camcorder to take videos.  I use the Flip Camcorder, which is very similar.  Learn to use Window’s Movie Maker which is on all Windows based PCs.  If you have a Mac, even easier to start running.

-  Video websites you need to create an account on for your video content:

YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, MetaCafe, AOL Video, Veoh, MySpace.tv, DailyMotion, Blip.tv, CarSpace

- Once you have an account at the above video websites, open a free TubeMogul.com account.  TubeMogul is your one-stop video distribution hub that will send your videos to EVERY website you have an account with in one click.  VERY POWERFUL TOOL!!

- If your website provider doesn’t offer a video upload option, VideoBloom.com offers a free one that you might be able to use.  SHAMELESS PLUG:  If your website provider doesn’t offer video, question why and come over to Dealer.com!!!

NOW…5 Steps to Video Optimization Success:

1.  Before uploading to TubeMogul, name your video file the term you’re going after in the search results (i.e. If you want to appear for ‘honda accord seattle wa’ name your file ‘Honda Accord Seattle WA.mov)

2.  Title your video file with what the search term you’re going after

3.  Create a detailed description for your file.  Detailed descriptions can include all relevant information, URLs, physical addresses, etc.

4.   Tag the video file with, once again, the keywords or phrases you’re targeting.

5.  Like anything, practice, practice, practice.  The more you know and can refine your technique, the better the results!

- Question was asked ‘Can I target my competition?’  ANSWER: YES!  Very effective technique that works well…
