How’d I Do? A Look Back At My 2009 New Year’s Resolutions

by Patrick Workman on December 28, 2009

I’m not very good with following through on my New Year’s Resolutions. In fact, I’ve started to question why I even attempt resolutions with my poor track record. Below is what I declared I would resolve in a January 2, 2009 post:

- 2008 Motto: ‘Gain Weight in 08. 2009 Motto: ‘Look fine in 09′ – Partial #FAIL on this. Although I wouldn’t exactly say I’m ‘looking fine’ in 2009, I did lose 4 pounds in 2008. That’s a victory!

- Blog more often to create a louder voice online – Another partial #FAIL. While I have lofty ambitions of blogging on a daily, weekly, more regular basis, it just hasn’t happened. My blogging activity in 2009 didn’t increase, but my Twitter usage exploded! Tweeting is easier and seemingly a better way to interact online compared to blogging. This will only become more apparent in 2010.

- Make it a point to golf whenever possible. Vermont is cold, I need to make sure I enjoy each and every sunny day – Golfing #FAIL, Wakesurfing #WIN. I didn’t golf much in 2009, but I was out wakesurfing every opportunity I got. We probably logged 30+ days on Lake Champlain over the summer.

- Go on a 2 week vacation. I haven’t taken a vacation for a couple of years. Africa in 2009. – A 2 week vacation nor Africa occurred in 2009. Bummer…but I do have a 2 week snowboarding trip to UT planned for February! EPIC WIN!!!

- Read 2 books per month. I’m good at reading while traveling, need to adopt a stay at home reading style – I read 19 books in 2009. Not the 24 I wanted, but pretty close. I’m putting this one in the #WIN column.

- Get involved. With 40,000 neighbors in Burlington, VT, I need to participate more in my local community – #EPICFAIL. I need to get better at participating in my local community. This is just laziness…I have no other excuses.

How did you do with your 2009 New Year’s Resolutions?
